Growing & Selling a Beloved International Coffee Company

Early on, as an Economics/Business graduate of UCLA, Annie was immediately hired by one of the prestigious “Big 8” accounting firms in Los Angeles, where she received her CPA. Her solid grasp of accounting and finance has been a key advantage throughout her career.

Earlier in her life, Annie’s business education began around the dinner table, as she listened to her mother and father discuss their business. This was the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, the first US chain of "gourmet" coffee and tea stores based in Southern California.

As CEO of her family business during the 1990’s, Annie was a trailblazer for career women. She led their family company from seven small retail coffee-tea stores to 70-plus high-volume coffee cafes in less than a decade. Shortly after, she managed the highly successful sale of the company.

Focusing on the Underrated "People Part" of Business

It was during her time as CEO of this rapidly growing, highly prosperous family coffee company that Annie was awe-struck to learn how the bottom line centered around the “people” who worked for her. They were the company’s greatest resource and asset, and they deserved mentoring, development, and acknowledgement.

From that vantage point, her strategies and action plans for managing the “people part” of business emerged. Her People Part book, published in 2021, is available through all major booksellers.
